Who Am I

In Victor Hugo’s Les Misérables, Jean Valjean struggles for redemption, and a pivotal moment occurs when a bishop shows him unexpected kindness and forgiveness. The internal conflict between his past and a desire for a new life causes Valjean to reflect and change. Motivated by the bishop’s grace, he is filled with gratitude and begins to build a new life. Valjean’s convict number (24601) is traded for a new identity, and Monsieur le Maire is born. His new life, centered around compassion, love, selflessness, and sacrifice, reveals the transformative power of redemption.

Yet, as he transforms, Valjean must constantly fight the shadow of who he once was, wrestling both with his inner turmoil and with Inspector Javert, who refuses to believe that a man like Valjean can truly change.

Romans 12:1-2 (NASB)

Therefore I urge you, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
